El Dorado County, CA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

El Dorado County prohibits fireworks throughout the unincorporated area under Title 8, Chapter 8.08 (Fire Prevention) of the County Code. The prohibition covers 'dangerous fireworks' as defined by State law and also extends to State-classified 'safe and sane' fireworks - meaning all consumer fireworks are illegal in unincorporated El Dorado County, regardless of date. Enforcement is shared by the El Dorado County Sheriff, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit, and local fire protection districts (El Dorado County Fire Protection District, El Dorado Hills Fire Department, Cameron Park Fire Department, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, and others). The prohibition is grounded in the County's wildfire profile: most of the unincorporated area is in a CAL FIRE State Responsibility Area (SRA) and includes Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones across the foothill, Sierra, and Tahoe Basin portions of the County. The County's General Plan Public Health, Safety, and Noise Element references the history of major fires - including the King, Caldor, and Mosquito fires - as justification for strict ignition-source restrictions. The City of Placerville and the City of South Lake Tahoe (the two incorporated cities in the County) operate under their own municipal codes. South Lake Tahoe also prohibits all fireworks within city limits.
