All consumer fireworks are illegal to possess or use in Sparks and Washoe County, including sparklers and the safe-and-sane types sold elsewhere in Nevada. Only professional displays permitted by the City are allowed.
Unlike unincorporated Clark County, the Reno-Sparks region bans consumer fireworks entirely. The Sparks Fire Department states it is illegal to possess or use any fireworks or pyrotechnics within the City of Sparks and Washoe County, no matter where they were purchased. The only lawful fireworks are public displays permitted through the City. The prohibition is enforced by the fire department under the city's fire code in Sparks Municipal Code Title 14 (Fire Prevention and Protection). Unwanted fireworks may be surrendered to the Sparks Fire Department with no questions asked and no penalty.
Possession or use is a misdemeanor: up to 6 months in jail and a fine up to $500 per conviction, including parents of juveniles. Violators also bear the cost of suppressing any resulting fire.
