All consumer fireworks are illegal inside Reno city limits year-round. Reno Municipal Code 10.12 bans possession, sale, and discharge. Only licensed public displays are permitted. Violations carry fines up to 1000 dollars and misdemeanor charges.
Unlike unincorporated parts of Nevada where safe-and-sane fireworks are briefly allowed, the City of Reno prohibits all consumer fireworks including sparklers, fountains, and aerial devices. Enforcement intensifies around July 4 when Reno PD and TMFPD run joint patrols. Reno participates in the You Light It, We Write It reporting program, allowing residents to submit tips with video evidence. The Nevada State Fire Marshal licenses only professional pyrotechnic displays such as the annual Reno Aces and Hot August Nights shows.
First offense: up to 1000 dollars fine. Fireworks causing a fire: felony reckless endangerment possible, plus full suppression cost recovery often exceeding 10000 dollars.
