Humboldt County, CA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

California Health and Safety Code Section 12677 makes possession of any dangerous fireworks - which includes skyrockets, bottle rockets, Roman candles, aerial shells, M-80s, and any firework that explodes or leaves the ground - unlawful without a state permit. Only fireworks tested and labeled as Safe and Sane by the State Fire Marshal under HSC 12529 may be sold or used by the public, and only in jurisdictions that allow them. Humboldt County allows Safe and Sane fireworks in unincorporated areas, but Humboldt County Code section 271-7 (County Park System) bans all fireworks, firecrackers, torpedo rockets, and explosives in county parks and on county beaches absent a Director-issued permit. The Sheriff's Office annually emphasizes that aerial devices recovered or used anywhere in the unincorporated county are subject to seizure and citation, with fines up to $1,250 per device under state law.
