Prince George's County regulates propane under the fire prevention code in Subtitle 11, which adopts the International Fire Code and NFPA standards. Residential grill cylinders are allowed, but larger tanks and indoor storage face limits enforced by the Fire Marshal.
Propane (LP-gas) storage and use in Prince George's County is governed by County Code Subtitle 11, the Fire Safety law, which adopts the International Fire Code and the applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 58 for liquefied petroleum gas. Small cylinders for a residential barbecue or a portable outdoor appliance are permitted when used per the manufacturer's instructions. Storing LP-gas cylinders inside a dwelling or in a basement is generally prohibited, and there are limits on the aggregate quantity a residence may keep on site. Larger permanent tanks and commercial installations require review and inspection by the Office of the Fire Marshal. A gas or propane fire-pit device used on a deck must be at least 10 feet from the house.
Improper propane storage or unpermitted large installations violate Subtitle 11 and the adopted fire code; enforcement is by the Office of the Fire Marshal, with fines up to $1,000 and/or 6 months in jail for fire-code violations.
