Castle Rock enforces the International Fire Code (Chapter 61) for LP-gas. Propane cylinders may not be stored on balconies or under overhangs of apartments and condos, and residential storage quantities are limited. Grill cylinders are fine when used and stored outdoors per the code.
The Town adopts the International Fire Code, whose Chapter 61 governs liquefied petroleum gas. For multi-family occupancies (apartments, condos, townhomes), LP-gas cylinders may not be stored on balconies or beneath overhangs; larger cylinders belong in a detached garage or outdoor storage area. Small self-contained cylinders inside a dwelling are capped at a low aggregate quantity. The burn-permit rules also require UL-approved barbeque devices and prohibit gas grills within 10 feet of combustible construction for other than one- and two-family dwellings. Detached single-family homes have more latitude but must still follow HOA and code limits.
Improper LP-gas storage is a fire code violation subject to a correction order and abatement by the fire code official; penalties follow the adopted fire code.
