Castle Rock imposes a 6% lodging tax on all sales of lodging, effective January 1, 2022, in addition to the Town's 4.2% sales tax. Short-term rental operators must collect and remit both.
Voters approved a lodger's tax in November 2021. "Beginning Jan. 1, 2022, a lodging tax of 6% will be imposed on all sales of lodging." This is charged on top of the Town sales tax, which rose to 4.2% on Jan. 1, 2025 after voters approved a 0.2% public-safety increase. "Lodging" covers furnishing rooms/accommodations for consideration, but excludes stays by a permanent resident under a written agreement for 30 or more consecutive days. Operators file returns and remit through the Town's Revenue Division. County, state and RTD/special-district taxes may also apply.
Failure to collect or remit the lodging or sales tax subjects the operator to penalties, interest and collection action by the Revenue Division under the Town's tax code.
