Jackson County, MS Garage & Yard Sales: Frequency, Duration & Permits (2026)

06 of the Jackson County Zoning Ordinance, "Conduct of Garage Sale at Any Location Other Than a Single-Family Residence Prohibited," does two things. First, it confines garage sales to single-family residences: the conduct or operation of a garage sale at any other location is prohibited, and the ordinance specifically calls out a self-storage warehouse or "mini-warehouse" as an example of a barred location. A resident cannot rent space at a storage facility to run a sale, no matter how it is billed. Second, it caps frequency at the household level: running or operating a garage sale for more than six days within a 12-month period is treated as a commercial operation and is prohibited outright.

The six-day cap is a rolling annual limit tied to the property, not a per-calendar-year reset, so a household that already used its six days in the spring cannot start a fresh six-day count in the fall of the same rolling year. 5, fine up to $500, with continuing daily fines of $100 for each day the unlawful sale or commercial use is not stopped after conviction.
