Full Breakdown
Under Chapter 58 of the county code, the 15-member Brevard County Historical Commission, three residents per commission district, appointed by the board of county commissioners, may place proper monuments, tablets or markers at forts, Indian mounds, or other locations of historical interest anywhere in the county. The commission acts on its own initiative or on a petition filed by a municipality or a historical society; there's no application fee or numeric standard attached.
Violations & Fines
This is a commission power, not a prohibition on residents: there's no fine or citation tied to it. Damaging or removing a county-placed historical marker falls under general criminal mischief and vandalism statutes rather than this section.
