Fairfield has no Municipal Code section specifically regulating holiday lights or seasonal displays. Standard noise, light-spillover nuisance, and electrical-safety rules apply. HOAs may impose their own timing limits (typically 30 days before through second week after the holiday) under CC&Rs.
Fairfield Municipal Code does not impose a specific timeline for putting up or taking down residential holiday lights or decorations. Displays must still comply with general regulations: amplified music or sound effects associated with the display must respect the noise ordinance under Chapter 25, Article X (Table 25.1401), which uses dBA limits at the receiving property line. Light displays that cause direct glare into neighboring bedrooms can be cited as a nuisance under Chapter 12 (Offenses). Decorations must not block sidewalks, vision triangles at corners, or address numbers required by the fire code. Inflatable or projector displays on city right-of-way (parking strip, sidewalk) are not permitted without an encroachment permit. Electrical installations should use outdoor-rated cords, GFCI protection on exterior circuits per CEC 210.8, and not overload service. HOAs operating under California Civil Code Β§4350 may adopt reasonable timing rules: most California HOAs allow decorations up 30 days before the holiday and require removal within two weeks after - those rules are enforceable if reasonable and adopted properly. Fairfield's city-sponsored Holiday Tree Lighting event takes place annually in downtown.
Light-spillover or noise complaints route to Code Compliance (707-428-7587). Standard nuisance citations apply ($100/$200/$500). HOA enforcement is separate and may include fines per CC&Rs. Encroachment on public right-of-way can trigger removal orders.
