Pembroke Pines has no city ordinance specifically regulating residential inflatable holiday displays. Displays must not encroach into the public right-of-way or block sight-distance triangles at corners. During Hurricane Watches and Warnings, all inflatables must be deflated and secured under Broward County Emergency Management guidance. HOA declarations frequently restrict or prohibit inflatables outright.
The Pembroke Pines Code of Ordinances does not contain a provision specifically regulating residential inflatable holiday displays (giant Santas, snowmen, animated characters, etc.). Single-family homeowners outside HOA communities may erect inflatables on private property, subject to general nuisance and property-maintenance rules. The principal city restrictions are indirect: (1) the display cannot encroach into the public right-of-way (sidewalks, swale, street) under the city's right-of-way obstruction provisions in Code Chapter 155; (2) at corner lots, displays cannot obstruct the sight-distance triangle as defined in the Pembroke Pines zoning code; (3) electrical components must comply with the Florida Building Code (GFCI outdoor receptacles, UL-listed cords). Pembroke Pines' hurricane and tropical-storm exposure creates the most significant practical concern: under a National Weather Service Hurricane or Tropical Storm Watch or Warning, residents must deflate and secure inflatables. Florida's general 'flying debris' liability under common law and Broward County Emergency Management hurricane preparedness guidance both treat unsecured outdoor objects as a hazard β homeowners may face civil liability for damage caused by wind-borne inflatables. The master-planned HOA communities β Pembroke Falls, Pembroke Lakes, SilverLakes, Chapel Trail, Spring Valley β commonly restrict inflatables to specific dates, limit the maximum number per lot, or prohibit them outright through their declarations under FL Β§720.304. Those private restrictions are enforceable in addition to city law.
Right-of-way obstruction: Code Compliance citation and removal order. Sight-distance violation at corners: zoning citation. Electrical hazards: stop-use order. Hurricane-related damage from unsecured inflatables: potential civil liability to neighbors. HOA violations: private fines under FL Β§720.305.
