San Benito County, CA Holiday Decorations: Lawn Ornament Rules (2026)

The county's zoning code definition of SIGN lists 17 items that don't count as signs at all, and cultural and holiday decorations of a noncommercial nature mounted on private residential property for cultural or religious observances are one of them. That means a homemade nativity scene, a lawn skeleton, or holiday yard figures aren't subject to the sign article's area, height, or permit standards in Chapter 25.07 as long as they stay noncommercial and residential. A related exclusion in the same definitions section also exempts inflatable party jumps and gymnasium devices from sign regulation.
