Michigan Cottage Food Law MCL 289.4105 allows Dearborn residents to sell up to 25,000 dollars per year of shelf-stable homemade food directly to consumers without a license or home kitchen inspection.
Michigan's Cottage Food Law permits residents to produce and sell specified non-potentially-hazardous foods from their home kitchens without a food establishment license or Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development kitchen inspection. Allowed products include baked goods like breads, cookies, and fruit pies, dry mixes, granola, jams and jellies from tested recipes, candies, popcorn, and similar shelf-stable items. Products containing meat, dairy, or low-acid canning are not allowed. Annual gross sales are capped at 25,000 dollars per household. Sales must be direct to consumer, including farmers markets, roadside stands, social events, and online with in-person delivery; wholesale and out-of-state shipping are prohibited. Each product must be labeled with producer name, address, ingredients, allergens, net weight, and the statement that it was made in a home kitchen not inspected by MDARD. Dearborn home occupation rules on traffic and signage still apply.
