Jefferson County (Louisville Metro) LDC home occupation standards restrict customer and employee visits to preserve neighborhood character. High-traffic home businesses may require a Conditional Use Permit. Businesses generating traffic indistinguishable from normal residential activity are permitted.
Under Louisville Metro's LDC home occupation provisions applicable to unincorporated Jefferson County, home businesses must not generate customer traffic beyond what would be expected of a normal residence. Non-household employee visits are restricted. No outdoor storage of business inventory, equipment, or commercial vehicles is permitted. Businesses with regular customer visits (salons, tutoring, small daycares) may require a Conditional Use Permit through the Planning Commission. Neighbors may file complaints with Zoning Enforcement (502-574-3321). The 12 independent suburban cities within Jefferson County may have different customer-traffic restrictions under their own LDCs.
Home businesses generating excessive traffic or commercial activity: Zoning Enforcement citation. CUP may be required. Civil fines and stop-activity orders for persistent violations.
