Peoria County, IL Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Peoria County's home occupation standards forbid any home-based business from generating more vehicle trips than would normally be expected for its residential zoning district, a general rule set out at UDO Sec. 2, Item 8. The ordinance then converts that general standard into hard numbers for each of its three home occupation classes. A "non-impact" home occupation, such as bookkeeping or tax preparation, is limited under Sec. 3, Item 4 to no more than one business visitor per hour on an appointment-only basis, and automobile trips may never exceed five per day.

A "minor" home occupation, such as an art studio or music lessons, may see up to two visitors an hour under Sec. 4, Item 4, with a daily cap of 20 automobile trips. A "major" home occupation, such as a small engine repair shop or a medical office, may accept both scheduled and unscheduled visitors under Sec. 5, Item 7, but automobile trips still cannot exceed 30 per day. Commercial deliveries factor in separately: Sec. 2, Item 9 limits deliveries from commercial suppliers, not counting mail or package carriers like FedEx or UPS, to no more than twice a week, and those deliveries cannot restrict traffic circulation in the immediate vicinity.
