La Habra requires a Home Occupation Permit before running any business from a residence. The application is reviewed by Community Development against LHMC Section 18.60 and, once approved, stays valid for the life of that business at that address.
Home occupations are permitted in residential zones only upon approval of a Home Occupation Permit from the Community Development Department at 110 East La Habra Boulevard, (562) 383-4100. The application collects details on employees and family members involved, days and hours of operation, percentage of the dwelling and garage used, proposed signs, alterations, equipment and chemicals, parking, storage, commercial-vehicle deliveries, and whether customers or clients visit. The applicant must certify they have read and understand LHMC Section 18.60 (Ord. #1719) and that the use complies with any CC&Rs. Approval is contingent on any conditions staff impose, is valid for the life of the business at that dwelling, and is nontransferable. A city business license is also required.
Running a home business without an approved Home Occupation Permit is a zoning violation subject to code enforcement; a permit can be revoked if conditions are broken.
