470 exempts a list of small signs from the county's general sign standards, and subsection (8) covers home-based businesses specifically: no more than one sign, not to exceed eight square feet, and it must be nonilluminated. 970, and it is more restrictive than the county's baseline sign standard elsewhere in the same chapter, which allows signs lit by an indirect external source. Because the exemption sits inside the sign code rather than a separate permit chapter, a compliant sign needs no additional sign permit beyond whatever home-based business approval already covers the underlying use.

Exceeding the size cap or lighting the sign converts it into a standard commercial sign subject to the full sign code, including whatever permit and setback rules apply to that sign class. Planning and Development Services administers the home-based business program and can require sign removal or modification as a condition of continued operation. A property owner who wants a larger or illuminated sign has no administrative waiver under this subsection; the options are to keep the sign within the exemption or pursue a variance through the hearing examiner process used for other zoning deviations countywide.
