El Paso County Land Development Code significantly restricts business signage in residential zones. Home occupation businesses in unincorporated residential areas are generally limited to one small identification sign.
Under the El Paso County Land Development Code, home occupations in residential zones are limited in their exterior signage. Typically, only one non-illuminated identification sign of no more than 2 square feet is permitted. Signs may not be illuminated, animated, or resemble commercial advertising. Larger or additional signs require a sign permit and must comply with the LDC sign chapter. Signs may not be placed in the public right-of-way. Commercial-style signage in a residential area can be a code enforcement trigger and undermine the residential character that the LDC seeks to protect.
Excess signage: code enforcement citation; sign removal order.
