Flower Mound Code Ch. 34 caps grass and weeds at 12 inches. Owners get 10 days to cure after notice. The town may mow and lien the property for costs.
Under Chapter 34 of the Flower Mound Code of Ordinances, it is unlawful for any property owner or occupant to allow grass, weeds, or uncultivated vegetation to exceed 12 inches in height on any lot, tract, or parcel within town limits. Code Enforcement officers may issue a notice of violation requiring abatement within 10 days. If the property owner fails to mow or otherwise remove the overgrowth within the cure period, the town may enter the property, perform the abatement, and assess all costs against the property as a municipal lien. The lien may include administrative charges in addition to the actual mowing cost. Repeat violators may be cited directly without an additional cure period. This ordinance applies to both occupied and vacant lots. Given Flower Mound's drought-prone Cross Timbers ecology, tall dead grass also presents a wildfire fuel load concern during summer and fall dry spells. Denton County drought conditions regularly trigger burn bans that amplify the fire risk from unmaintained vegetation.
