Ch. 34 Health and Sanitation requires grass and weeds below 12 inches. Violations trigger a 10-day abatement notice. Town may mow and lien costs to property.
Little Elm Code of Ordinances Chapter 34 (Health and Sanitation) declares grass, weeds, and rank vegetation exceeding 12 inches in height to be a public nuisance. Property owners receive written notice to abate within 10 days. If the owner fails to mow within the notice period, the town may enter the property, mow the vegetation, and bill the owner for the cost. Unpaid mowing charges become a lien against the property enforceable through tax foreclosure. Little Elm Code Enforcement conducts proactive sweeps during the growing season from March through October. Drought conditions common in Denton County can slow grass growth but also increase fire risk from dry vegetation. The town participates in the North Central Texas Council of Governments regional code enforcement coordination. Vacant lots and properties in pre-development stages are subject to the same standards. Texas Local Government Code Chapter 342 authorizes municipalities to declare rank vegetation a health hazard and abate at owner expense.
First notice: 10 days to abate. Town mows if owner fails to comply. Mowing cost assessed as lien. Repeat violations within 12 months may be abated without additional notice. Fine up to $500 per offense.
