In unincorporated Mohave County the adopted property maintenance code, Ordinance 2021-03, caps weeds and rank vegetation at 30 inches. Kingman, Lake Havasu City, and Bullhead City run their own codes. The concern is fire fuel and blight, not tidy lawns.
The Mojave Desert has few grass lawns, so Mohave County's standard targets dry brush and overgrowth rather than mowing height. Ordinance 2021-03 adopts the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code and amends Section 302.4 to set the weed limit at 30 inches on unincorporated parcels. Development Services code enforcement acts on complaints, issues a notice, and can abate an overgrown lot and assess the cost against the property. Cultivated gardens and native desert plants are not the target; accumulated tumbleweeds, dead vegetation, and fire fuel are. Incorporated cities enforce their own property maintenance codes.
A notice of violation gives a deadline to clear. If ignored, the county hires a contractor to abate and records the contractor cost, plus staff and inspection fees, as an assessment against the property.
