Long Branch enforces property maintenance standards requiring lawns and vegetation to be maintained. Weeds and grass must not become overgrown creating a nuisance. The city's property maintenance code (Chapter 262) and general nuisance provisions apply. Grass clippings are not collected by the city.
Long Branch Chapter 262 (Property Maintenance) establishes standards for residential and commercial property upkeep including lawn and vegetation maintenance. Properties must be kept free of conditions that constitute a nuisance, including overgrown grass and weeds. New Jersey state law (N.J.S.A. 4:7-1) addresses noxious weeds. The city collects brush from March 15 to June 1 and September 15 to December 31, but grass clippings are not picked up β residents should use a mulching mower or compost. Cut branches must be 4 feet long maximum, 50 pounds maximum. Landscapers are responsible for removing all brush and debris they generate. Buffer plantings must comply with height requirements: 4 feet maximum in front yards, 6 feet minimum in side/rear buffer areas.
Unmaintained property: code violation with fines up to $2,000. Each day of continuing violation is a separate offense.
