Prince George's County, MD Landscaping Rules: Water Restrictions (2026)

Unlike arid-West jurisdictions, Prince George's County imposes no fixed watering days or year-round watering schedule. Public water and sewer come from WSSC Water (the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission), serving Prince George's and Montgomery counties. In normal, wet conditions homeowners may water lawns and gardens freely. Restrictions apply only when the Maryland Department of the Environment declares a drought. Under the State's Level One Mandatory Water Use Restrictions, watering of grass is prohibited, with exceptions for newly seeded or sodded areas and for athletic fields and golf courses under an approved conservation plan. WSSC appoints its own drought coordinator for variance requests. Because humid Maryland relies on reservoir and river supplies, there is no everyday odd/even watering regime.
