Sarasota County Code Chapter 122, Division 3 (§§ 122-200 to 122-206), created in 2008 by Ordinance No. 2008-081, authorizes traffic infraction detectors, photographic red light cameras, at intersections in the unincorporated county. Section 122-202 requires every driver facing a steady red signal to stop before the crosswalk or stop bar and remain stopped until the light turns green, though a driver may make a legal right turn on red after stopping, yielding to pedestrians and cross traffic. 00 fine against the registered owner, not the driver, unless one of several listed exceptions applies: the vehicle was stolen or used without permission (backed by a notarized affidavit), the driver already received a Uniform Traffic Citation for the same red light, the vehicle was an authorized emergency vehicle, the driver was complying with another law, the driver had to violate the signal to protect person or property, the signal was malfunctioning, or the Special Magistrate voids the citation on appeal.

A Notice of Code Violation must be mailed by certified mail within 14 days of the infraction to the titled owner on record with the state. The owner has 30 days to pay the fine or file a Notice of Contest with the Clerk; missing that window is treated as a default and an admission of the violation. 09(3) and can suspend the owner's county privileges, including occupational licenses and permits, until the fine and costs are paid in full.
