Amplified music rules in Lake County, FL โ also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances โ set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
Amplified music that annoys or disturbs neighbors, or is detectable by many people so as to cause severe annoyance, is prohibited as excessive noise in unincorporated Lake County. Permitted special events, sporting events and lawful parades are exempt.
Loud stereos, PA systems and live-band amplification are covered by the general excessive-noise rule in Sec. 14-34, which bars noise of such character and quantity as to be detectable by a considerable number of persons and to cause severe annoyance or discomfort. The county weighs zoning, time of day, proximity to sleeping areas and duration. Sec. 14-37 exempts sounds from organized sporting events, events with an approved special-event permit, fireworks and permitted parades on public property. Non-amplified noncommercial public speaking on public property is also exempt, but amplified sound is not automatically protected. Loud vehicle stereos are regulated separately under Florida law (FS 316.3045).
Excessive noise (Sec. 14-34): reduced $150 first citation, $300 repeat, court up to $500; criminal prosecution up to $500 or 60 days jail after a warning.
