Amplified music rules in Seminole County, FL — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
Seminole County Sec. 165.41 makes it unlawful to operate any sound-producing device that creates a noise disturbance, and Sec. 165.42 applies the same rule to indoor amplifiers. There is no fixed decibel number; music must simply not become an unreasonable disturbance.
Chapter 165 regulates amplified sound by effect, not by a numeric decibel cap. Sec. 165.41 covers radios, TVs, phonographs, tape/CD players, musical instruments, and synthesizers (defined in 165.2(y)) operated so as to create a noise disturbance. Sec. 165.42 covers indoor sound amplification devices. Outdoor amplification is separately governed by Sec. 165.43 (see outdoor-music). A person wanting to exceed these limits for an event may apply to the County Manager for a special noise permit under Sec. 165.52, which weighs factors like proximity of residences, sound level, time, and duration.
Operating a device that creates a noise disturbance is punishable under Sec. 1.8, Seminole County Code (165.61); each continuing day is a separate offense. Special permits are available under Sec. 165.52.
