Siskiyou County, CA Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Events (2026)

Amplified music and PA systems are not regulated by a Siskiyou County noise ordinance, because the County has not adopted one. A California Public Utilities Commission environmental review confirms that noise is not regulated by the Siskiyou County Municipal Code. As a result, the unincorporated communities have no county-set decibel ceiling for amplified sound, no curfew specifically targeting speakers and amplifiers, and no county amplified-sound permit program of the kind some cities require for events. The County's General Plan Noise Element does establish exterior land-use compatibility goals (residential exterior noise generally acceptable up to about 60 dBA Ldn), but those are used during planning and project review rather than as a live enforcement standard against a party or event. The practical control on loud amplified music in the unincorporated area is California Penal Code Section 415, which makes it an offense to maliciously and willfully disturb another person by loud and unreasonable noise; the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office responds to and enforces such complaints. Large gatherings may also trigger other permit requirements (for example, special-event or temporary-use review under the County's zoning code), and any noise conditions placed on such a permit would be enforced through that approval. Outside of those project- or event-specific conditions, no fixed amplified-music decibel number applies in unincorporated Siskiyou County because none is published.
