Construction hours in Spokane County, WA โ sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances โ set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
In unincorporated Spokane County, temporary construction noise is exempt from the noise ordinance only between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., or at any hour if the work is more than 1,000 feet from any residence. Outside those hours it can be a violation.
Under SCC 6.12.020, sounds from temporary construction sites are exempt from the noise-disturbance prohibition (SCC 6.12.010) only during 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., or when conducted beyond one thousand feet of any residence where human beings reside and sleep at any hour. The same exemption window covers forest harvesting, silvicultural activity, quarrying, blasting and mining. Construction outside these hours near homes is a noise disturbance. Cities of Spokane and Spokane Valley set separate construction-hour rules.
Construction noise outside 7 a.m.-10 p.m. loses its exemption and is enforced as a noise disturbance under SCC 6.12 by the Sheriff's Office. Report via Crime Check (509) 456-2233.
