Placer County Code Section 9.36.030 exempts construction noise from the County's general noise standards between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, provided equipment is fitted with factory muffling and maintained.
Under Placer County Code 9.36.030, construction, alteration, and repair activities are exempt from the Chapter 9.36 sound-level standards only when conducted during the listed hours. Outside those hours, construction noise is subject to the general 9.36.060 sensitive-receptor limits. All construction equipment must have factory-installed muffling devices in good working order to qualify for the exemption. Emergency repairs (e.g., utility line breaks) are treated separately as exempt under the same section. Incorporated cities within the county set their own construction hours and may be more restrictive (for example, Roseville and Rocklin).
Construction work outside permitted hours can be cited by Placer County Code Compliance Services or the Sheriff. Repeat or substantial violations may be prosecuted as infractions or misdemeanors under Placer County Code Chapter 1.
