Johns Creek (a largely residential suburb) applies its nuisance noise limits at the receiving residential property: 55 dBA / 60 dBC by day and 40 dBA / 50 dBC at night. Non-residential landscaping equipment must observe the same time limits within 250 feet of a home, and loud unusual noise is a general nuisance.
Johns Creek is an affluent, predominantly residential community with limited heavy industry, and its Code of Ordinances does not contain a separate industrial-zone noise schedule. Instead, sound from commercial and non-residential sources is judged at the receiving residential property under Section 30-20(a)(2), Table 1, with absolute limits of 55 dBA / 60 dBC during the day (7:01 a.m.-11 p.m.) and 40 dBA / 50 dBC at night (11:01 p.m.-7 a.m.). Where the receiving home's background sound already exceeds those levels, Section 30-20(a)(3) caps the source at the background level. For non-residential properties, Section 30-20(b)(2) bars landscaping and yard-maintenance power equipment from operating 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., before 8 a.m. Saturday, or before 10 a.m. Sunday when within 250 feet of a residential property (golf course facilities excepted). Trash and refuse collection is prohibited 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. under Section 30-20(d). Any other loud or unusual noise from a business that is detrimental or annoying to reasonable people can be declared a nuisance under Section 30-1(7). Detailed performance standards for specific zoning districts appear in the city's separate Zoning Ordinance (Appendix A).
Commercial or non-residential noise that violates the Table 1 limits, equipment-hour rules, or general nuisance provision is enforced under Chapter 30. Section 30-22(d) sets progressive minimum fines of $250, $500, and $1,000 in a 12-month period, and Section 1-7 allows a fine up to $1,000 and/or six months imprisonment, each day a separate offense.
