Redlands Municipal Code Section 8.06.070 caps exterior noise at industrially zoned receiving property at 75 dBA at any time; where industrial noise reaches a residential property, the lower residential limits (50 dBA night / 60 dBA day) apply. Stationary machinery must be muffled (8.06.090.C) and vibration is regulated under Section 8.06.090.G.
Industrial and stationary-source noise in the City of Redlands is governed by Chapter 8.06 (Community Noise Control). Section 8.06.070 sets the highest exterior standard for industrial receiving zones - 75 dBA at any time (industrial has no separate lowered nighttime figure). Where industrial noise reaches a more sensitive receiving zone such as residential, the lower residential limits apply at that property: 60 dBA daytime (7 a.m.-10 p.m.) and 50 dBA nighttime (10 p.m.-7 a.m.). Several stationary industrial sources are regulated directly: Section 8.06.090.C requires motors, machinery and pumps to be sufficiently enclosed or muffled and maintained so as not to create a noise disturbance, keyed to the Section 8.06.070 limits; Section 8.06.090.F requires construction/industrial internal-combustion equipment to use working exhaust and air-intake silencers; and Section 8.06.090.G addresses vibration, prohibiting operating any device that creates a vibration above the vibration perception threshold of an individual at or beyond the property boundary (or at 150 feet from the source on public space or right-of-way). The interior limits in Section 8.06.080 (60 dBA for industrial receiving buildings) also apply. These are the City's own standards under its Municipal Code; San Bernardino County's industrial-noise rules apply only to unincorporated areas, not within incorporated Redlands.
Industrial or stationary-source noise exceeding the Section 8.06.070 limit for the receiving zone, unmuffled machinery (8.06.090.C), or perceptible vibration crossing a property line (8.06.090.G) can be cited under Chapter 8.06 by the City's Code Enforcement Division. Violations are enforced as nuisances/infractions or misdemeanors under the Municipal Code.
