Outdoor music and noisy gatherings are unlawful when they disturb the peace of neighbors. Officers can order a party to disperse, and outdoor amplified sound audible more than 25 feet past the property line is prohibited. Event permits are available.
Section 14-173(j) makes it a violation for people to congregate at a party or gathering emanating 'noise of a sufficient volume or of such a nature that it disturbs the peace, quiet, comfort and repose of any neighboring inhabitants,' and a responding officer may order attendees (other than owners/tenants) to disperse; refusing a lawful order may bring arrest. Outdoor amplified music is also captured by the 25-foot audibility rule in Sec. 14-173(c). Organized sporting/school events on campuses and City-sponsored events are exempt (Sec. 14-176).
Fines from $100 to $500 plus 24 hours jail on repeat convictions; refusing an officer's lawful dispersal order at a noisy party may lead to arrest.
