Amplified music rules in Madison, AL — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
It is unlawful to operate any radio, stereo, loudspeaker, instrument or similar sound device so that the noise is audible more than 25 feet from the property line where it originates. A noise permit can be sought for special events.
Section 14-173(c) prohibits using any radio, CD player, digital music device, television, stereo, musical or percussive instrument or similar device 'in such a manner as to produce noise which is audible more than twenty-five (25) feet from any property line of the property where the sound originates.' Subsections (a)–(b) apply the same 25-foot test to sound devices in motor vehicles on public and private property. Possession of the device is prima facie evidence of operation (Sec. 14-178). Applicants may seek a City noise permit from the Mayor under Sec. 14-177.
Minimum $100 first conviction, $250 second, $500 plus at least 24 hours jail on the third; each day is a separate offense.
