Madison, AL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 4-5 of the City of Madison Zoning Ordinance requires clear visibility at intersections within designated sight triangles. Between a height of 3.5 feet and eight feet, measured from the higher of the street or driveway surface, no planting, fence, wall, berm, or other obstruction may be placed unless it conforms to the height restrictions. Minimum required sight distances at street and rail intersections are set in the ordinance's table, with mixed-use districts handled project-by-project. Corner-lot fences must therefore be kept low or open within the triangle even when the general eight-foot side/rear height would otherwise apply.
