Quiet hours in Orleans Parish, LA β also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time β define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
In New Orleans (Orleans Parish), amplified sound in a home may not be plainly audible one foot from a neighbor's exterior wall between 9:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday (10:30 p.m. Friday/Saturday) and 10:00 a.m. the next morning.
City Code Sec. 66-203(3)d makes it unlawful during nighttime hours to operate a radio, television, phonograph, loudspeaker or sound-amplification device in or on a residential parcel so it is 'plainly audible at a distance of one foot from any exterior wall of the neighboring dwelling.' A parallel rule, subsection e, bars sound plainly audible inside another unit of a multi-unit building. Weeknight quiet hours start at 9:00 p.m.; weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) start at 10:30 p.m. Both end at 10:00 a.m. Orleans Parish is a consolidated city-parish, so these rules apply across all of New Orleans.
Misdemeanor under Sec. 66-140: fine up to the state-law maximum and/or up to 90 days jail. Each day is a separate offense; police may issue a cease order.
