Frequent horn honking, and frequent engine noise from starting, operating, repairing or testing motor vehicles in a residential area that disturbs neighbors, are public disturbance noises in unincorporated Clark County. Amplified car stereos audible 50 feet away are also prohibited.
CCC 9.14.010(2) bans frequent, repetitive or continuous honking of any vehicle horn or siren except as a danger warning or as legally required. CCC 9.14.010(3) targets frequent engine noise from starting, operating, repairing, rebuilding or testing vehicles/engines in a residential area, with a 7 a.m.-10 p.m. exemption for maintenance power equipment. CCC 9.14.010(7) prohibits vehicle sound amplifiers audible from 50 feet away on public streets (except emergency vehicles). Exhaust/muffler standards are also set statewide under Washington's motor-vehicle law.
Vehicle-noise public disturbances are misdemeanors under CCC 9.14.030: $250 fine and/or up to 90 days in jail; enforced by the sheriff.
