York County has no ordinance restricting backyard barbecue grills. Propane and charcoal grills stay legal even during a countywide burn ban. Balcony/multifamily grill limits, when they exist, come from the state Fire Code and your municipality, not the county.
There is no York County rule against grilling. Notably, the county's own burn-ban resolution expressly exempts grills: it states the use of propane or gas stoves and charcoal briquette grills is not prohibited by the ban, so residents can keep grilling even during a drought open-burning ban. The one common restriction on grills, no LP-gas or charcoal grills on combustible balconies or within a set distance of multifamily buildings, comes from the International Fire Code adopted through the PA Uniform Construction Code and any building or HOA rules, not from York County. In county parks, cooking fires must use charcoal or wood in approved fireplaces.
No county grilling penalty exists. Balcony/multifamily grill violations are enforced by the municipal fire code official under the PA UCC/IFC; park violations are cited under York County Code Ch. 75.
