Weber County, UT Outdoor Lighting: Dark Sky Rules (2026)

Sec 108-16-1 states the chapter's purpose is to promote community character by preserving a dark sky, reducing light pollution and its effects on wildlife, maintaining nighttime safety, and supporting astrotourism, including pursuit of International Dark-Sky Association park accreditation. Sec 108-16-2 makes the chapter apply to all outdoor lighting in the county and directs that the more restrictive rule controls if it conflicts with another part of the code. Sec 108-16-3 sets the operative standards: unless specifically exempted, every outdoor light must be fully shielded with completely opaque material so light escapes only downward, no fixture may project light directly into the night sky, and light color cannot exceed 3000K on the standard Kelvin chart.
