Security lighting in Sedona must be aimed and shielded so direct illumination is confined to property boundaries. Motion-sensing fixtures must shut off when motion ceases — no leaving them on as ambient lighting.
The shielding standard applies regardless of whether the fixture is mounted to the house, garage, or yard pole. Fixtures with lamps over 2,000 lumens must be fully shielded. The intent is to preserve Sedona's IDA Dark Sky Community designation while still allowing security needs. Combined with the 100,000 lumens/net acre cap (non-SFR) and 5,500 lm partially-shielded cap, total exterior brightness is tightly controlled.
