Sedona's outdoor light control rules under Ch. 8.30 require all fixtures — including security lighting — to be aimed and shielded so direct illumination is confined to the source property and does not cross onto public or private streets.
Direct illumination must stay within property boundaries. Fixtures with lamps above 2,000 lumens must be fully shielded. Motion-sensing fixtures must turn off when motion stops. Permanent string lighting may not flash, blink, fade, or strobe and counts toward the partially-shielded lumen cap (5,500 lm/net acre, with no lamp over 2,000 lm). Total outdoor light is capped at 100,000 lumens per net acre for non-single-family residential uses.
Code enforcement notice; non-compliant fixtures must be retrofitted or removed.
