Sedona City Code §6.15.020 makes it unlawful to intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly feed or attract wildlife — including bears, javelina, deer, elk, coyotes, skunks, foxes, bobcats, and mountain lions — within city limits.
The ban was passed by the City Council on April 11, 2023 in response to repeated javelina attacks on residents whose neighbors had been feeding the animals. 'Attracting' includes leaving edible material accessible — in trash cans, as pet food, or as garden produce. The ordinance allows bird feeders if they are at least 4 feet above the ground and inaccessible to other wildlife. Fines range from $150 to $500 per violation, escalating for repeat offenses.
Civil penalties: $150 first offense, up to $500 for repeats. Each day a violation continues is a separate offense under §6.15.070.
