Sedona Land Development Code §3.4.D allows backyard chickens in residential districts only on lots with an occupied dwelling. Up to 4 chickens on lots up to 20,000 sq ft, up to 6 on lots over 20,000 sq ft.
Coops must sit behind the primary structure, at least 20 feet from side and rear property lines, and may not be placed within the front setback area or within 150 feet of Oak Creek, or within 25 feet of any other designated watercourse. Coops must be predator-resistant, kept clean and odor-free, with feed stored in rodent-proof, fastened containers. Slaughtering is prohibited within city limits. Roosters are typically not allowed in residential districts due to noise. Shared outdoor spaces in attached or multifamily housing cannot host chickens or bees.
Land Development Code violations enforced by Community Development. Coops in noncompliant locations must be relocated or removed.
