Sedona Land Development Code §3.4.D allows beekeeping on residential lots with the same setback and screening requirements as backyard chickens. Bees are prohibited in shared outdoor spaces of multifamily housing.
Hives must be behind the primary structure and away from property lines so foraging bees don't conflict with neighbors. Council unanimously approved beekeeping along with backyard chickens in 2018. As with chickens, the lot must have an occupied dwelling unit. Hives must be located so as not to create a nuisance to adjacent properties. Beekeepers are encouraged to register hives with the Arizona Department of Agriculture for swarm-response and pesticide-notification purposes.
