Oregon law (ORS 819.100) makes abandoning a vehicle a Class B traffic violation. A vehicle left on a public way over 24 hours may be towed and impounded. Report abandoned vehicles to the Marion County Sheriff or your city police.
Abandoned vehicles are governed statewide by ORS chapter 819. ORS 819.100 provides that a person commits the offense of abandoning a vehicle by abandoning it upon a highway or any public or private property, a Class B traffic violation. Under ORS 819.110, an authority may take custody of and tow a vehicle believed disabled or abandoned that has been left on a public way for more than 24 hours without authorization. Salem also treats junk vehicles (SRC 102.040(k)) and vehicles left over five days as subject to removal, with notice under ORS 819.170.
