The Butler County Sheriff can remove an abandoned junk motor vehicle left on private property for 48 hours or longer without the owner's permission, under ORC 4513.63. The car must also be three years or older, extensively damaged, inoperable, and worth $1,500 or less.
Ohio gives the county sheriff (and township, city, and district police chiefs) authority to remove abandoned junk motor vehicles under ORC 4513.63. The vehicle qualifies only if it has been left 48 hours or more on private property without permission (or on public property), is three years old or older, extensively damaged, apparently inoperable, and has a fair market value of $1,500 or less. Law enforcement must photograph the vehicle, document the damage, prepare a sworn affidavit, and dispose of it to a licensed salvage dealer or scrap facility within 30 days. Townships may also act under ORC 505.871.
The abandoned junk vehicle is photographed, affidavit prepared, and hauled to a salvage or scrap facility within 30 days; the owner may owe removal and storage costs.
