Fair Lawn prohibits parking, leaving, keeping, maintaining, or storing any abandoned motor vehicle within the Borough except where specifically authorized by zoning or a granted variance.
Fair Lawn's abandoned vehicle ordinance forbids any person from parking, placing, leaving, keeping, maintaining, or storing an abandoned motor vehicle within the Borough. The only exceptions are locations specifically authorized by the zoning ordinance (such as licensed junkyards or auto repair facilities in proper zones) or where a variance has been granted by the Board of Adjustment. The rule applies to public streets and private property alike. Vehicles without valid registration, in non-operational condition, or visibly deteriorated may be classified as abandoned and subject to removal.
Owners face Borough fines, towing at their expense, and potential title forfeiture for vehicles that remain abandoned. Property owners hosting abandoned vehicles can also be cited.
