Prince George's County Code Section 26-162 prohibits leaving any abandoned vehicle anywhere in the County. A vehicle is abandoned if it is inoperable, unregistered, or left more than 48 hours on public property. Report complaints through the County 3-1-1 system.
Prince George's County Code Subtitle 26, Division 14, Section 26-162 makes it unlawful for any person to leave an abandoned vehicle anywhere in the County or to permit one to remain on their property. A motor vehicle, trailer, watercraft, or semitrailer is deemed abandoned if it is inoperable or in disrepair and left over 48 hours on public property, has remained illegally or beyond 48 hours on public property without valid plates, or has sat over 48 hours on private property while inoperable (missing engine, transmission, wheels, etc.) or unregistered. Partially dismantled, wrecked, or junked vehicles are presumed abandoned. The Revenue Authority enforces the section, and vehicles may be impounded under Division 18. Municipalities may run their own abandoned-vehicle programs.
Fines escalate: $100 first violation, $500 second, and $1,000 for each additional violation. Vehicles may be towed and impounded, and illegal dumping may trigger criminal prosecution under Maryland Criminal Law 10-110.
