Loudoun County, VA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

07 targets the congestion and visual impact that oversized trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment create when parked on residential lots. The rule applies only within Urban and Suburban Zoning Districts, and its definitions are unusually specific: a 'Commercial Vehicle' includes any solid waste vehicle, tractor truck, dump truck, concrete mixer, or towing/recovery vehicle registered at 12,000 pounds or more; any vehicle over 25 feet long or 8 feet tall (including appurtenances); any vehicle 102 inches or wider; any double-axle utility trailer; any vehicle hauling hazardous materials under Va.

4; and any vehicle with three or more axles. Subsection C makes the default a prohibition, oversized vehicle parking or storage on a residential lot is banned except where the ordinance carves out specific room. Commercial vehicles get one narrow exception: they may stop on a residential lot only while actively loading or unloading, not for overnight storage. A homeowner who uses a single business vehicle for work gets a separate one-vehicle allowance, but only if it's parked in an enclosed garage, an accessory structure, an approved off-street parking area, or behind the nearest portion of the buildings relative to the street, and only if a resident of the property actually drives it for work.

Anything beyond that one vehicle, or parked in the open front yard, falls outside the exception and back under the general ban. 3, which carries its own 48-hour limit.
