California Vehicle Code section 22507.5(a) lets counties prohibit or restrict parking of commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or heavier in residential districts. Shasta County addresses commercial vehicle operation on county roads in Chapter 10.06 of the County Code (Vehicles of Commercial Character). Weight-limited bridges and roadways are signed under Vehicle Code section 35650 et seq.
Under California Vehicle Code section 22507.5(a), Shasta County may by ordinance restrict parking of commercial vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more on streets or highways in areas defined as residential districts under the local zoning ordinance. The restriction must be adopted after a public hearing noticed under Government Code section 65090, and does not apply to commercial vehicles making pickups or deliveries, or delivering construction materials for jobs operating under a valid building permit. Statewide weight limits on county roads and bridges are governed by Vehicle Code sections 35550 through 35654; bridges and roads with reduced weight limits must be signed under section 35650. Shasta County Code Chapter 10.06 (Vehicles of Commercial Character) covers further local rules including section 10.06.070 (Violations and Enforcement). Oversize and overweight commercial loads require a permit from the Shasta County Public Works Department for travel on county roads.
Commercial vehicle parking violations are infractions enforced by a citation; the bail amount is set by the Shasta County Superior Court bail schedule. Overweight violations under Vehicle Code section 35551 carry an additional civil penalty calculated by the weight overage. Vehicles parked on residential streets in violation of a local commercial-vehicle parking ordinance may be towed under Vehicle Code section 22651.
