Madera County Code Section 18.102.090 bars parking any commercial vehicle of 10,000 pounds or more gross weight on a residentially zoned parcel or county road, except during active loading. One truck-tractor (no trailer) may park on a residential driveway only if the lot exceeds 15,000 square feet. Truck routes are set in Chapter 10.08.
Unincorporated Madera County directly regulates heavy commercial vehicles in residential areas under Zoning Code Section 18.102.090. No commercial vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or greater may be parked within any residentially zoned parcel or on any county road or right-of-way there, unless active loading or unloading is in progress. There is one narrow exception: a single truck-tractor only, without trailer or semi-trailer, may park on the driveway of a residence in a residential subdivision if the lot area exceeds 15,000 square feet, and no repair or maintenance may be performed on it while so parked. The ordinance defines 'commercial vehicle' broadly to include truck-tractors, trailers, semi-trailers, motor trucks, straight trucks, bobtails, dromedaries, drays, trailer coaches, well-boring rigs, gantry trucks, and logging trucks, but expressly excludes recreational vehicles and campers. Up to two two-axle panel trucks or vans combined may park at a residence (subsection C), and agricultural or forestry vehicles may park in all agricultural districts (subsection D). Separately, Chapter 10.08 (Limitations on Trucks) designates truck traffic routes and restricts vehicles over three tons (and seven tons on certain named roads) to designated routes, with weighing authority for officers under Section 10.08.090.
Parking a commercial vehicle of 10,000-plus pounds gross weight on a residential parcel or county road (outside active loading) violates Section 18.102.090. The only allowance is one trailer-free truck-tractor on a driveway when the lot exceeds 15,000 square feet, with no repairs permitted. Operating trucks over weight or off designated truck routes violates Chapter 10.08.
